image Basking in sunshine for more than 300 days a year, the region of Murcia in south-east Spain is the perfect destination for a golf holiday.

The area is easily accessible for players travelling from the UK, with budget airlines such as easyJet, Ryanair and bmibaby all operating regular flights there.

If you're planning to jet abroad and enjoy a golf holiday in Spain this summer, then why not consider having a game at the Lo Romero Golf Club in Pilar de la Horadoda.

The 18-hole par-72 course is open all year round and boasts an excellent range of facilities.

According to Club Murcia, Lo Romero is "set in a beautiful landscape, surrounded by orange and lemon tree plantations", making it the perfect spot to hone your skills during a break in Spain.

"Pilar de la Horadada is the southern-most town in the region of Valencia, you can see La Manga from the beach, this means it is also close to the warm inland sea of the Mar Menor with its flamingos and therapeutic mud," the website notes.

The course has been designed in harmony with the landscape and is complimented by Mediterranean vegetation, as well as impressive lakes and bunkers.

Players are sure to be impressed by the 18th hole on the course, which is in fact a small island surrounded by water.

According to the resort's official website, "the fear to strike the ball too hard or too gentle and the ball landing in the water makes your hand go unsteady, your heart beat very fast, your adrenaline raise and your senses sharpen".

In addition, Lo Romero is home to an impressive range of practice facilities, including chipping greens and a driving range.

There is also a clubhouse, where players will find changing and shower areas, as well enjoying a bite to eat and a refreshing post-game drink. Equipment can be hired from here and guests can head to the golf pro shop to stock up on clothing, balls and tees.

As well as Lo Romero, people taking holidays in Spain this summer will find a host of other places to play, including Alicante Golf Course.

Designed by Seve Ballesteros, it features impressive greens, an S-shaped lake and even historical ruins. Beginners may find the course a little too challenging, but intermediate and advanced players will be in their element.

Another great place to enjoy a round of golf during your break is at La Torre Resort, which is part of a Polaris World complex. The course here was created by Michael Nicklaus and is spread across 15 hectares of lush landscape.

The 18-hole par-68 course features a number of elaborately-sculpted bunkers and a number of lakes, making it ideal for people looking for a demanding game.

Players can also brush up on their skills by enlisting the help of one of the professionals working at the resort. One-to-one tuition is on offer, as well as group sessions.

In addition, people staying close by or within the resort may wish to consider signing up for an intensive course. These last four or five days and are perfect for players who want to learn the basics or brush up on their existing skills.

Holidaymakers visiting the Mar Menor region will also find golf on offer at the Mar Menor Resort and La Manga Club, which is home to three championship courses and has hosted a number of major tournaments in the past and is world-renowned for the quality of its sports and leisure facilities.
